Build Your Audience through Facebook Live Streaming

Live streaming is still on the cutting edge of social media.

Youtube Live, Youtube’s live streaming functionality, launched in 2011.

Four years later, Facebook launched their live streaming version in August 2015—Facebook Live.

Now, two years from its launch, it’s doing better than ever.

Facebook averages around 1.23 billion daily users. This makes it one of the easiest ways to gain an organic reach.

It’s still all about the content

This never changes.

It doesn’t matter what medium you use. Be it content writing, video, images, infographics, or podcasts.

Content matters.

That being said, here are some ways to boost your content. Because, like it or not, you’re going to need engaging content to increase your audience on Facebook Live.

Refrain from using vague statements

As this shows your audience that you’re ill-prepared. That, and you don’t value their time.

What do we mean by vague statements?

  • Not stating specific data points when stating a fact: “People in the US have many dogs.”
  • Stating the obvious: “You need to do the hard work in order to get rewarded.”
  • Too many cliches (this goes back to stating the obvious): “Never say never.”
  • And saying hyperbolic statements: “We can all agree on that.”

 The more concise, the better

Unless you’re William Faulkner’s ghost, you can’t get away with using long, strung-out sentences.

The same goes for video and live streaming.

You can’t go on a long diatribe, where there suddenly becomes no point.

Why?

Your audience wants information.

They’ve taken a few minutes (maybe an hour!) to read, listen, and watch your content. They don’t have the time to decipher your message.

So, give it to them straight…on a consistent basis.

Amp your audience up

People enjoy witnessing events firsthand. Which means you can add even more hype to a Facebook Live event.

How?

Try these tips:

  • Create a countdown until the event
  • Film and edit a preview and share it on social media
  • Create a manual countdown until the event (do this by tweeting how many days, hours, and minutes are left daily).
  • Post images, memes. and GIFs on social media. These should be relevant to the event. And there should be a call-to-action at the caption.
  • Interact with your audience early. Ask them questions on Facebook about what topics they want you to cover for the event.
  • Invite your friends to Facebook Live.

Make sure your live streaming event goes smoothly by doing this…

We recommend you post instructions on your Facebook page about how to view Facebook Live.

In fact, why not send out these instructions on other social media platforms an hour before?

It does two things:

  1. You subtly remind/let people know about your event
  2. Fewer people will have technical difficulty viewing your event.

With 24 hours to go, check your mike, headphones, and camera equipment. It’s better to know now if something’s not working. That way, you have enough time to fix it.

Repeat again at the 12-hour, 6-hour, and half-hour marks.
